Be Thankful for the Listener-
and Show It!
December 22

With the holiday season in full swing let's make sure that the things we are thankful for play out in our everyday lives. For example, if we are thankful for family and friends, make sure we live our lives in a way that makes this obvious to all.

The same should hold true for how we deal with our listeners. If they knew how important they were to you they would listen far more often and even tell others about you. Instead, we often rush them off of the request line, shake hands with them without establishing eye contact, speak poorly about them with others, talk down to them on the phone, etc.

The idea of radio in our minds can sometimes replace the essence of it. The listeners are not there for you! You are there for them.

The 30-60 Day Rule
December 15

Does it seem odd to you that we use contests and promotions to persuade listeners to listen more often and on more occasions and then penalize them after they win by making them ineligible to participate with the station for the next 30 to 60 days?

This 30-60 day rule doesn't impact your non-players or winners but it sure has a negative impact on those who do want to participate. What if you knew that winner had an Arbitron diary? Would you be anxious to tell that person they can't participate for the next 30-60 days?

Capture the Spirit of the Season!
December 8

No matter how much Christmas music you play to enhance your product, it probably will not be as effective as you want it to be if you solely rely on the music.

You must make a complete production out of this holiday season with strong audience interaction, production, promotion and marketing.

Jukeboxing Christmas music will not give you the help you are looking for. You need to capture the spirit of Christmas.

What's the Temp at Your Listener's House?
December 1

Here is a way to get countless people involved with your morning show.

At various times, ask people to call you with the temperature they have at their house. You can then include those temperatures in your weather, "65 at Jessica Hill's house in Hillsdale, 67 at Steve Warren's house in Mason and 71 at 101 WADG."

Not only can you get their temps, but you can also get other audio from them for your mornings show on various topics you are going to bring up.
